My wife and I met up with two other team members to spend some time on Clear Lake on the 4th of July weekend. We had never been on a lake this size – or this busy. We were unprepared for the size of the wakes the large pontoon boats and speed boats were throwing at us. Our hosts had spent much time on the lake and assured us we would not capsize if we used some caution and good practice. They were correct – everyone had a great time and we finally got our sea legs!
We paddled around part of the lake to a popular little bar & restaurant. The paddle took about an hour. We paddled right up to the beach and pulled our boats up on the shore. We then enjoyed a refreshing lunch and rest for the arms. Our paddle back was enjoyable and seemed to not be as challenging. The weather was perfect, with sunshine and a light breeze. This is a different experience than the rivers we are accustomed to, but it was a fun experience and a great weekend in North Iowa.
Thanks to all for a great weekend on the water!
